How to Protect Yourself from Cancer-Causing Chlorinated Water
Water ionizers are quickly gaining ground as an essential appliance for those concerned about the carcinogenic effects of chlorinated water. In years past municipal drinking water wasn’t “cleaned” and, as a result, often led to cholera and other water-borne diseases.
The introduction of chlorine as a disinfectant and cleanser of our water supply began in the late 1800s and quickly reduced the number of deaths due to waterborne illnesses. As a result, by 1904 chlorine was seen as necessary to cleaning our public water supplies. This practice continues today, yet many are beginning to question the negative effects chlorine has on our health.
The advances in science and technology since the early 1900s have led to discoveries of safer and more effective ways of cleaning our water supply, however they are also more costly. As with many things in the world, the bottoms line trumps all other concerns. Basically, this means that we continue to dump bleach into our drinking water because it is simply the cheapest way to clean the water. And yet, as the old saying goes, “You get what you pay for.”
The long term, carcinogenic effects of drinking chlorinated water are beginning to come to light. Recently the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality stated that the “cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.” For this reason, many are turning to water ionizers and other in-home filtration systems to provide clean, safe water for themselves and their families.
