Water – Our Greatest Resource
How important is clean drinking water to human life?
The human body will start breaking down after only one day without water. Humans can live many weeks without food, but take away the water we need and we all are in trouble.
Many of you may remember learning in grade school about water and the proportion of land and water the Earth is. Water occupies 70% of the planet Earth, leaving land to occupy 30%. (about.com). Think about a pie chart and consider the fact that most of our planet is water. Another astounding fact is that over 6 billion of our human counterparts make their homes on that 30% of land. (www.about.com)
Many people in years gone by have taken for granted that we cannot live without fresh clean drinking water. Or maybe we have not taken it for granted but have just become accustomed to having water whenever we need it. In fact, if you are like me, I don’t even think of it when I am getting a tall glass of cool refreshing ice water. Water is our most precious natural resource besides oxygen. Most people in the United States get up in the morning and turn on the facet in their kitchen or bathroom to get some of the life giving substance, without much thought about it.
How important is water to the human population on Earth?
When babies are born, both male and female are about 78 % water. The human male at maturity is about 60 % water and the adult human female is typically 55 % water. (www.Wikianswers.com). When faced with a survival situation, clean drinkable water is often the most important consideration. People have survived without food for weeks or even months, but go without water for even one day and the survivor will be in desperate straights indeed.
Knowing that water is by far the most important nutrient for the human body (besides oxygen) and, in particular, during a survival situation when finding potable water may not be easy, the question becomes – how long can the human body survive without adequate clean drinking water? The answer is 3 or 4 days at most before organs start shutting down.
To maintain a high level of health and efficiency even in ideal environments, a minimum of two quarts of clean water per day per person is the generally accepted rule of thumb. In very hot or cold or very dry environments, or if you are physically active, two quarts of water a day may not be enough to sustain life over a period of days or weeks. (www.survivaltopics.com)
Water is undoubtedly the most precious natural resource that exists on our planet. Without the valuable compound comprised of hydrogen and oxygen, life on Earth would be non-existent. It is essential for everything on our planet to grow and prosper.
During the Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century, water pollution was recognized as a danger to public health. Water from factories and homes were flushed into our rivers and oceans creating unsafe drinking water.
Today, over 1 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water and every 15 seconds somewhere on the planet, a child dies from a water-related disease, according to Water Partners International (www.water.org)
In response to the loss of clean drinking water for the world’s population, many companies have created solutions for filtering and cleaning our water by water ionization, and other types of water filtration systems. The companies that do this offer cost effective ways to ensure that the water we drink is clean, safe, and pure, and now healthier for human consumption with water ionization.
That is the type of water machine I’ve been reviewing over the last few weeks. It has been said that a water ionizer delivers a healthier drinking water and is linked to increased health benefits. After hours of researching the internet for the health benefits of drinking alkaline water, as it is sometimes called, there is overwhelming evidence that there are health benefits from drinking ionized water. For instance, consumers report that they have more energy and feel “alive”. It is reported to increase oxygen to cells and other organs that depend on fresh oxygen intake for healthy functioning. There are a multitude of other claims from better digestion to clearer healthier skin. The unit is easy to hook up, and comes in a compact sink top unit that is very well designed. Check the benefits out for yourself if you are considering a healthier lifestyle that includes a well rounded and focused health strategy.
